How To Deal With a Long Workday
Sometimes, a workday can stretch on for what seems like an eternity. Whether you are working from home or in the office, you may need some encouragement about staying on task and staying engaged in your work. It can be easy to get discouraged on this front, but there are some things that you can do to deal with a long workday.
Break Your Day Into Manageable Time Stretches
If you wake up first thing in the morning think about how you have to spend the next nine hours doing nothing but work, you will get discouraged quickly. Instead of starting off with this negative attitude, break your day into manageable time increments. For example, if you are working from home, you can set a timer to work for an hour and a half and then take a five minute break. This can help you feel like you are working towards an attainable goal.
Take Needed Breaks
Working nonstop will do nothing to boost your productivity. Instead, take necessary breaks. Use your break time wisely, too. You can take a quick walk to the mailbox or make yourself a quick, nutritious lunch.
Stay Hydrated and Eat Well
When you are dehydrated and not eating well, you are more likely to be tired and less motivated. This can make the day stretch on forever, so it is necessary to drink plenty of water and eat the right foods. Snacks high in carbohydrates may give you energy for a few minutes, but the crash is not worth it.
When you find yourself bored to tears at work, consider ways that you can make your time more enjoyable and manageable. Talk to your coworkers about how they deal with workday stress, and try to find a balance that consistently works well for you.
